"Moe"

Scientific name:  Cyclura nubila

Where am I from originally?  Cuba

What’s for dinner?  Leafy greens and vegetables

Fun fact:  Skin color ranges from dark gray to brick red

While similar to the more common Green Iguana, Cuban Rock Iguanas can reach up to five feet long and weigh between 15 and 25 pounds.  They are diurnal ground dwellers and feed on a variety of vegetation.  Moe is given daily access to natural sunlight which is extremely important in the production of vitamin D3.  This vitamin must be present in order for Moe, and many other reptiles, to absorb calcium into the body.  The vitamin D3 synthesis takes place in the skin when exposed to UVB rays from sunlight.
